Winter is officially here; the cold temperatures today were bone chilling. Although I love winter, wearing layers over layers can tend to ruin an outfit you are trying to pull off. For my look today I managed to layer up while keeping it chic. To start off, let me tell you a little bit about Tartan, and why I love it so much. Tartan originated in Scotland as a design that consists of crisscrossed vertical and horizontal bands of woven wool in various colors (kilts). Now a day’s tartan has played a major role in all major fashion houses, from Karl Lagerfeld to Stella McCartney. Almost every brand has included a collection (or more than one) that included the tartan pattern. I personally love tartan, and think it is the perfect pattern to subtly add some color/pattern to any outfit.

For my look, I paired my dark tartan skirt with cashmere thick high socks (warm) and a plain colored sweater. I added a vest, and scarf to make sure I keep warm but tried to not stray too far from the color combination of the skirt.
